Suitable Properties settings for use with Windows 95, 98, NT and 2000

If you are using RoboCAD with Windows 98, NT 4.0, or a later Windows version, consider upgrading to Accucadd, which is a native 32-bit Windows version of RoboCAD, with enhancements. Click here for more information.

We have found that these Properties settings work well on most 32 bit Windows installations. You can see and change the properties by right-clicking on a program or a shortcut. If you are not sure about this feature of the 32 bit Windows systems, please check with your local expert. Although unlikely, it is possible to cause problems that are difficult to diagnose and correct if you set up inappropriate values. Should you do this, seek help and be sure to explain what you did!

Shown is a typical setting when you wish to run RoboCAD directly. This takes you directly to RoboCAD, by-passing the configuration and setup screen (System Menu). One reason for doing this is to prevent casual users from changing these settings. Disdvantages include being unable to use the Set Up:Run Other feature to transfer drawings to RoboSOLID, RoboMILL, and so on. To enable Run Other and the System Menu, make the command line (Cmd line:) read `C:\ROBO20\RSYS.BAT` *If RoboCAD is not in the C:\ROBO20 folder, be sure to use the name of the folder (disk drive and directory) of where it is installed in the Cmd line* and Working sections.**
When you click the Advanced button on the Program tab (above), you get this dialog. We suggest setting it as shown.
Clicking the Memory tab brings you to this dialog. These settings are not the only ones that work. You may reduce Conventional Memory/Total to 480 if neccessary, but no lower. The other values should be regarded as minimums. RoboCAD does not use XMS so there is no need to allocate any. Don't try running Windows 95 on a computer with less than 16MB memory. You need at least 32MB for Windows 98, NT or 2000 (Workstation), and at least 64MB for NT or 2000 Server. Use double these values if possible.
Clicking the Screen tab brings you to this dialog. Ensure that Full-screen is specified in this tab. You can experiment with Fast ROM ... and Dynamic memory ... but on modern, fast, computers it often makes little difference.
Clicking the Misc tab brings you to this dialog. Do not allow screen savers! These do not "save" anything, often are the cause of problems, and don't solve anything! This is especially true in networked applications. You should set the Mouse and Termination variables as shown. Fast pasting is optional.
